inBachs / Pulling An Accidental 14 Hour Workday
Oops I did it again. After my last call today, I got into a good flow with work, and before I knew it, it was almost 10 p.m.—turns out, I’d accidentally pulled a 14-hour workday! 😅
It reminds me of a time last summer, when a client asked me how I manage everything, and I told him I’m actually finding a pretty great balance lately. For me, this is balance: when it feels good to work, I work. When I’m over it, I stop. It’s been so freeing to approach things this way.
This whole idea reminded me of a book I read this summer, I Know How She Does It by Laura Vanderkam. She describes life like mosaic tiles that we can arrange however we want, shifting them to suit the moment. Sometimes that means a late-night Thursday work session; other times, it means stopping early on Friday to read outside or at a vibey coffee shop.
I had shared this with some friends, and it resonated with Anna, who’s been finding her own rhythm while going through our Scale program with Outside The Bachs. She said she wakes up excited to work, sometimes putting in extra hours at the end of the day too, but she’s mindful of balancing her mind’s ambition with her body’s needs. It’s a great reminder to make our work sustainable—something I’m trying to keep front and center as well. ❤️
