inBachs / Building a Sustainable Private Music Studio in New York City

Music friends in NYC, I have an invitation for you!!

This is a great chance to network with other private teachers and get some professional development time squeezed into your busy schedule.

I will be presenting in the city on December 9th and I would love to see you there. The Piano Teachers Congress of New York is hosting a free session called Building a Sustainable Private Music Lesson Business. It is open to the public and it is for all private music teachers not just piano.

Running a private music studio is so much more than teaching your weekly lessons. It is about creating something that supports you, fits with your life, and gives you real stability as a musician. Most of us were taught everything about playing and teaching, but almost nothing about how to actually run a studio in a sustainable way. Things like setting tuition, communicating boundaries, creating clear policies, or understanding who you teach best were never really covered in school.

Because of that, a lot of private teachers end up building their studio through trial and error. And while that is normal, it does not have to be the long term plan.

When you take the time to establish simple systems, define who your ideal students are, and communicate your expectations clearly, everything in your studio becomes easier. Lessons feel more enjoyable. Families understand how your studio works. You spend less time putting out fires and more time doing the work you love. That is what sustainability really looks like for a teaching artist.

If you are in New York on December 9th, I hope you will join us. I will be sharing practical steps to help you build a teaching business that feels professional, predictable, and aligned with your goals. It is going to be a great conversation and I would love to see you there (and possibly get coffee with you afterwards!!)
